Unpacking biblical language, ancient worldviews, and the real questions that matter
Phenomenological Language
Just as we say "sunrise" without believing the sun orbits Earth, biblical authors used observational language without making scientific claims.
"If you told me about an amazing sunrise, I wouldn't call you an idiot for not knowing the earth orbits the sun."
Ancient Near East Perspective
Scripture looks "from earth up to God" - it's divinely inspired truth communicated through human cultural contexts.
"Though it is not written to us, it is written for us."
Genre Matters
Psalms communicate differently than Leviticus. Understanding biblical genre helps us interpret correctly.
"Some things are prescriptive, some descriptive, and some emotive."
The Real Question
Did biblical authors even care about cosmological models the way we do? Their focus was theological, not scientific.
"If we showed Moses this picture... would he even care?"
"The Bible never explicitly teaches a flat earth cosmology. What we find are idioms and phenomenological language that some have pieced together into a worldview the text itself doesn't present."
